Parrot Care

Since ancient times, humans have been attracted to the magnificent colors and the adorable personalities of the parrots. Over time many different types of parrots have been domesticated. Over several thousand years, humans and parrots have grown closer and today we have a very good understanding of how to domesticate parrots and keep them as lovable house pets. As we have learnt more about the parrots, we have also learnt a lot about how to care for the amazing avian species.

The first thing when it comes to caring for your parrot is that you feed it well. When you feed them there is a lot of information you need to be acquainted with. Especially about the food that is best for your parrot. We have learnt that different species eat different types of food, but proper nutrition is the key part of caring about your parrot. Some of the common things in a parrot’s diet can be fresh fruits and vegetables, pellets, and variety of seeds. Parrots must also be given fresh water to drink everyday.

The second thing is to keep your bird clean and healthy. You need to have a good environment where the bird is free from infections. A tricky business about a pet parrot is cleaning the cage. Though this may sometimes seem like dirty business, this must be done to make sure the parrots are healthy and happy. When parrot cages are cleaned, extensive care must be taken not to use harmful chemical products like ammonia, bleach and other strong cleaners. If such chemicals are used, the parrot will suffer from skin and eye irritation.

The third thing about caring for your bird is the knowledge you impart in it to improve your companionship with it. Parrots are very active, inquisitive and intelligent. You need to keep your pet parrot happy when it comes to its intellectual needs. These birds also need company. So you need to keep them entertained. You could keep the cage in places where the bird will not get bored, say in the living area where it can see some kids or people moving around. Avoid keeping the parrot in the kitchen as they may not like your cooking.

The fourth thing is that the parrots need to be groomed regularly. Parrot’s beaks and nails keep growing. You should clip it once every 3 to 4 weeks. Sometimes, they may have problems with overgrown nails as it comes in way of their grasp. If you do not want your bird to fly, you should get the wings clipped regularly too. Most of all you should give a bath to your pet regularly. In the wild they take bath under natural rain. At home you should do this yourself.

Parrots are very lovable and funny when they are taken care of well. You should understand the needs of the parrot and take care of it properly to have a good time with it.
